What to Expect
To schedule an appointment, please call 785-357-5188, fill out our contact form, or create a patient portal account and schedule online! We will try our best to accommodate your busy schedule.
For those who have not visited us at the Animal Clinic of North Topeka, we would like you to know what to expect when you come in for your visit. Our veterinary team strives to make sure you and your pet feel comfortable and welcome at our clinic.
Checking In
Welcome! Upon arrival, please check in at our front desk. A customer service representative will get you checked in for today’s visit. If you have any previous vaccination or medical records for your pet, please let the customer service representative know so they enter them to provide the most accurate chart history for the veterinarian. Please have all dogs on a leash and all cats in a carrier upon entering the clinic. If you do not have a leash, our front desk has one available for you. We also have cardboard carriers available for purchase.
We are lucky enough to have a private entrance for special pets if needed. If your pet would feel more comfortable with our private entrance, give us a call upon arrival and a customer service representative will get you checked in over the phone. The technician will then come out directly to your vehicle and escort you and your pet into our private room.
Exam Rooms
When everything is ready, a technician will escort you and your pet back to the exam room. Our exam rooms are tastefully designed and spacious, providing a safe and clean environment for examinations and consultations. We have two different types of exam rooms at the clinic. Our open exam rooms provide more space for patients allowing them to feel comfortable. Our private rooms provide a closed solitary space for patients to be excluded from the busyness of our clinic.
The Exam
Upon entering the exam room the veterinarian will get a brief history/review of your pet. The veterinarian will then perform a thorough exam of your pet. During the exam feel free to ask any questions you may have about your pet. After the exam, the veterinarian will administer vaccines as needed and recommend diagnostics they feel your pet would benefit from. If diagnostics are needed, we are able to perform them during your visit in most cases.
The Treatment Room
In most cases, we will need to take your pet back to our treatment area to obtain samples or perform diagnostics. While they are in the treatment area you are more than welcome to wait in the exam room or the lobby. After we have completed our diagnostics, the technician will instruct you on any medications or last questions that you may have. At this time, you are ready for check out!
